If ND football wins out, is 9-3 with losses to USF, Michigan, an USC good enough to earn Notre Dame a spot in one of the 5 BCS bowl games?

Is that South Florida they lost to….hm no but NBC might just invent a new bowl just for Notre Dame.

Since Notre Dame is not in a conference, the current BCS contract with the bowl game committees has a special rule regarding their participation in one of the major bowl games.

If the Irish finish the season in the top 8 of the final BCS rankings, they are guaranteed a spot in one of the 5 BCS bowl games.

Notre Dame isn’t currently ranked in the BCS top 25. If they end up 9-3 they’ll no doubt be in the BCS rankings but that record isn’t good enough to move them all the way to the top 8.

No 3 loss team will be in the top 8 in the final BCS rankings.
